Peapod program teaches local students about food insecurity and nutrition

Peg Merzbacher of Peapod spoke to students from Creskill’s Academy of Saint Therese about food security and nutrition.  Her focus was to teach kids about the importance of selecting nutritious foods when donating to CFA.

For example, as reported by Northjersey.com, she asked the students to compare the ingredients of doughnuts against that of eating a comparable serving of instant oatmeal. The label showed each product’s nutritional attributes per serving, and she led the students to choose the healthier food. She said 50 percent of the calories contained in a doughnut come from fat, whereas oatmeal’s fat content for a comparable serving was about seven percent.  Click below to read more.

Girl Scout Troop 1427 Goes Above and Beyond for CFA’s Clients

Girl Scout Troop 1427 organized a month long food drive in February as part of their Bronze Award. They recently dropped off approximately 3.5 tons…TONS of collected food and $3,124 worth of supermarket gift cards and cash to CFA Mahwah.  

CFA teams up with CFBNJ for April 6th food distribution to Sandy victims

On Saturday, April 6th CFA is teaming up with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to make a substantial distribution of food, personal care products and supermarket gift cards to families and individuals in Little Ferry and Moonachie who are still struggling to repair their storm damaged homes.   Picture ID and proof of residency will be required.  Please contact CFA if you would like to volunteer on April 6^th: jrothman@cfanj.org.

The Center for Food Action is one of three local organization that will receive the net proceeds of last Saturday’s celebration.  Over the past 60 years the Bergen Passaic Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has been committed to helping raise funds to support local programs.  CFA thanks Jack and Jill for its ongoing support of our work to end local hunger and homelessness!
